Goals for 2014

Another year, another chance to set goals and stuff.

Running/Fitness Stuff

Have a goal race. I don’t know WHICH one it will be yet (Chicago Marathon? Soldier Field 10?) but I want to go through one focused training plan. I was going to set a mileage goal for the year, but that can vary greatly depending on what races I do, so this is a better goal.

52 or more strength workouts. Yoga, pilates, weights, etc. In 2013, I brought a lot of Groupons for local studios, and there are a few places where I’m willing to pay full price for their classes. Pilates Reformer classes for one. And I always thought yoga was a little wimpy and just good for stretching, but much like training for a marathon, if you push yourself, you’d be amazed what you can do. If I could just hold crow pose or a headstand, I’d be impressed.

24 or more “fun” workouts. Burlesque (already signed up for a session), ballet (already bought a Groupon for drop-in classes), soccer, water sports (I really enjoyed SUP), acrobatics, and whatever else I come across. I recently made a friend who is into tricking … seems like something I should definitely attempt during my focused training plan, yes?

Non-Fitness Stuff

Zero balance on all credit cards. Eek. Needs to happen. Needs to happen five year ago. Related, I’m setting a goal of spending $1,200 ($100/month) on apparel. I … might regret publicly declaring this.

Read 12 books. If at first you don’t succeed …

Once a month, host something. Game nights, dinner party, girls night/sleepover, clothing swap (should help with that clothing budget), kiddie sleepover (I promise that will only involve children I’m related to, no “hey there, sonny, I have free candy” exploits) … I like hosting, and not just because I can fall into bed drunk whenever I’m done. (But mainly because. Although I guess I can’t shouldn’t do that for the kiddie sleepover.)

Volunteer. I’m not sure exactly how yet, but I need to get back into this.

So that’s the plan.

Hope everyone had a fun time ringing in the New Year! Roberto and I went to dinner and then met neighbors Anne & Bob (and randomly ran into my college friend Cassie) at the DANK Haus for the Polkaholics.

  1. Hahaha, the videos are especially awesome because, as you can probably tell, I had no idea you were taking video. Also, Robert is such a graceful dancer.

Good luck with the money stuff. My credit cards will all hit $0 in a couple more years, and as of now, I can only spend with my debit card. Super hard adjustment at first (since I used to shop a LOT too), but I know it’ll put us in a better place financially when it’s all said and done.

  2. I love reading your goals because of how measurable and well thought out they are. I especially love the “host something” goal! I would also love to join along for some “fun” workouts. Maybe we can find something close to work and go at lunch!

    1. I find it’s a lot easier to follow through when I can take intangible ideas – be healthier, enjoy what’s around me, give back, stay connected to friends – and put them into tangible actions.

As for a fun class, I don’t know if we could get there and back during our lunch, but maybe after work: http://corporatepole.com/

  3. I love these goals! I also want to do a longer “goal race” but haven’t decided what race it will be…and I love the idea of “fun workouts” to add some variety..what a wide array you have! And totally agree on reading more and do clothing swaps…I’d be down for that! 🙂 Happy New Year!
