The only downside to tonight was that it’s August and this is the first time I’ve made it out to the Grant Park Music Festival – free classical concerts at the Pritzker Pavillion at Millenium Park. But at least I made it out for my favorite composer* – Rachmaninoff and his Piano Concert No. 2. If you’re more up on the pop culture than Russian Romanticism, this was the music for the ballet starring Zoe Saldana at the end of Center Stage. (Go to about 30:50 in the linked video and you should recognize it. If you’ve watched Center Stage repeatedly like I have … )

* Really tough call, but I think he wins. He makes me want to move my piano to my apartment, but that would be rude, yes?

I also love, in order, Holst, Ravel, Tchaichovsky and Beethoven. If you care.

The blankets from the 2011 Soldier Field 10 have come in handy MANY times. I have two because this is one of the few races my husband has done with me.

PS – wine in a juice box! WINE IN A JUICE BOX.

Met up with my college pal April, who recently finished her MSW at our alma mater (that would be Loyola University Chicago). And … WINE IN A JUICE BOX. Can you tell I’m excited at this discovery? Only $4-6 per box (which is labeled as equalling 3 glasses of wine).

The locale is not too shabby.

Pretty sure wine is required if you’re sitting on the lawn.

I probably won’t make it to another GPMF concert, but I need to do a better job of checking the schedule in advance next summer. Not a bad way to spend the evening.

Confession: I also have yet to make it out to Ravinina.

Who is your favorite composer?
