Training, 6/10-7/7

I haven’t done a training post since Ragnar, because …

June 10 – 16: Miles – 0, other workouts – 0
Too busy packing/moving to do anything else

June 17 – 23: Miles 11.2, other workouts – 0
Despite having a week off from work

June 24 – 30: Miles 14.3, other workouts – 0

July 1 – 7: Miles: 18.9, other workouts – 2

So yeah, as I mentioned in my June recap, with the move and the new job, I haven’t been running as much. But things are starting to settle down and I’m trying to fall into a routine.

The awesome thing is, I have basically added 2.5 hours to my day. Previously, I woke up at 5am, left for work at 5:40am, and didn’t get home until 5:45pm, and then had only a few hours to squeeze in a run, make and eat dinner, shower, etc before it was bedtime. Plus I was job hunting, and later, apartment hunting as well. I was commuting 4 hours day, and now I’m commuting 1.5 hours per day.

So now, I can wake up an hour later, run, shower, go to work and still get home at the same time as before … and already be done with my run. Or, I can stay at the office for an extra 45 minutes and get in a strength workout in the free fitness center and still get home at the same time as The Sailor. And I can actually enjoy the rest of the evening because my workouts are done. So, life has improved greatly in that regard!

And plus you know … I have this great place to run:

Temps in the mid-80s … only slightly cooler by the lake.

    1. Yup! And the trail got SUPER busy south of Fullerton so I turned around and headed back north, but it was around mid-day on Sunday … great beach weather.

      1. I live a few blocks from there so I am VERY familiar with those crowds. During the summer I almost never run south of Fullerton… Too many people, kids, animals, bikers, flying volleyballs (even though I have been the cause of said flying volleyballs before…) I stick to the inner paths or go north.

  1. Cooler by the like is great finally! Sadly, they always mumble the weather forecast for us that live close to it.

Having all the extra time is GOLD! Adds so much value to your day!
    have a good day!

  2. So glad that the new apartment and job are helping you get more balance in your schedule! When I work in the office, my day goes from 5:30am until at least 6:30 or 7pm, so I can definitely relate to not being able to/wanting to fit in a workout after work on days like that. I’d probably never exercise if I had to be on that schedule everyday.

And if you want a less crowded path to run sometime, I can recommend one that starts a couple miles from us (so really, no different than running to the Lakefront Trail).

        1. Ha! Well I have yet to try it out, so I guess it is. It starts at Lawrence, right? If so, I think it is SLIGHTLY closer to me than getting to the Lakefront Trail. And I am really curious to check it out!

          1. Yep, in River Park. And actually, last time I did a FF fun run, it went from the store to the park, so you’ll get to see that much, and run through some of Ravenswood Manor (one of my fave neighborhoods to run in).

  3. I am so happy to hear how much more YOU time you have now! When we started to work from home more, it improved my quality of life SO MUCH MORE. I don’t know if I could go back to crazy commuting every day! I know a lot of people do it, but it drains you and makes you feel like a robot!

    1. I thought I would get SO much reading done on the train … nope. I either slept, playing games on my phone, check Facebook/Twitter, or stared out the window. SOMETIMES I would read. The day’s copy of RedEye.
