I promise I’m not trying to turn this into a Food Blog. But when I do actually get around to cooking something other than a frozen dinner, I get excited and feel the need to document it, apparently.

This is the perfect time of year to make fried green tomatoes (or any other recipe that calls for green tomatoes). I picked this tomato from my mom’s garden. It’s just an unripe regular tomato.


Making fried green tomatoes is pretty easy. You just drag tomato slices through flour, then egg white, then breadcrumbs (sprinkle whatever spices you like in the breadcrumbs, today I used Italian breadcrumbs and just added salt and pepper, but I’ve also added cumin in the past) …


Then drop in hot oil and let them cook until they look done to you …

I let mine cool on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

If I was really fancy, I would make some kind of dipping sauce.
