I took this past Thursday and Friday off from work, and I realized this will probably be my longest stretch of days off this summer. So … this is my “summer vacation.” Kind of sad, but at least it’s something.

I went to the Taste of Chicago with my oldest brother, sis-in-law and niece.

I didn’t take pictures of my food because I’m not a foodie … and I was too busy taking pictures of my niece. But I had a steak jibarito from Sabor Latino, braised beef from Inspiration Kitchens, mustard-fried catfish (my favorite of the day) from BJ’s Market & Bakery and potato pierogis from Kasia’s. (PS I’m SUPER EXCITED for pieorgi fest at the end of the month … it’s out of the way for most people in Whiting, IN, but you should go anyway, it is SO DELICIOUS.) We went to the Taste on Thursday, so we stayed for the Death Cab for Cutie free show. None of us are huge Death Cab fans, but we’re familiar with their music and hey, a free show is a free show. Calexico opened for them and I think I liked them better.

I went to the Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club on Saturday to celebrate a birthday (the gal in the striped top).

I had never been to the Kit Kat Lounge – it’s a popular place (especially for bachelorette parties), so you need reservations. Our performer for the evening dressed as Katie Perry, Whitney Houston and … Kylie Minogue? I was expecting actual singing but it was lip syncing and a lot of dancing and … more.

Other stuff:
I slept in until 11am on Friday and Sunday. It was glorious.
I ran 3 miles on Thursday and 9 miles on Saturday. Yay for cut-back weeks.
I made breakfast for the upcoming week. Basically oatmeal muffins, using this baked oatmeal recipe as a starting point.
I’m almost done reading another book. I’ve probably read more in the past month than I have in the past year.
I got a hair cut. (I go to Salon 22.) As you can see from the picture above, it’s not that much different. Just needed it cleaned up.

And now my “vacation” is over and it’s back to being a responsible adult again.
