Consider this a Throwback Thursday. I found my very first “race reports” in my old LiveJournal blogs.

this morning was the Park Forest Scenic 10 and 5K. my parents and rob and i ran the 5k. rob and i ran together and my parents ran/walked together. anyway, i’m glad i had rob with me. i’ve been “training” for the 5k – running on the treadmill at the gym. i’ve been able to go the distance at a constant speed, but at no incline and with music and a tv in front of me in air conditioning. so obviously this morning was a bit tougher. but rob and i kept eachother going, at a much brisker pace than i thought. we finished in 30 min, 20 seconds – a little under 10 min a mile (5K = 3.1 miles). i’m super impressed at our time. i finished 2nd amongst 20-24 yr old females, but i’m guessing there weren’t that many of us – i wouldn’t have been in the top 3 in any of the other age groups between 25-54. but i wasn’t expecting to do anything fantastic today – i was happy just to do it and finish. i saw my spinning instructor from my gym, i finished ahead of her. i’m sure if we were doing a longer run or a bike race, she would’ve kicked my ass – i’m sure she has great endurance. so anyway, maybe next year rob and i can finish sub-30. we’ll see.

Today I ran the 5K at the Scenic 10 in Park Forest. Rob also ran it and my parents ran/walked it. Anyway, I finished in 29:53, which was a pace of 9:44 per mile. Not too bad, but I wish I had trained more. Maybe next year I can run a sub-28* race or something. Last year I ran it in 30:20, so a slight improvement. It was raining during the race and I was wheezing by the end. I’ve never wheezed like that before. I got my breathing back to normal pretty quickly after I finished though. There are a few more 5Ks in the area in the next few months, I’d like to run one or two more**. It’s actually pretty fun, despite the wheezing and my legs being tired for the rest of the day. It’s a great feeling when you finish. And then checking your time/place (190 out of 404 runners).
I spent the rest of the day doing laundry, cleaning my room, going to Target and then going to our friend’s barbeque. We were going to play softball (well, I was going to watch because my shins were tired/sore/etc) but before they could even pick teams, it started pouring. It was still pouring a couple hours later when we left, that was a fun drive down I-80 :-
** My next race was a half in 2010.
